SARAWAK today recorded two more deaths from the Covid-19 virus, bringing the national death toll to six, a statement from the Sarawak Disaster management committee said.

The victims in Sarawak were a 79-year-old woman and her 40-year-old daughter. Both were from Kuching.

The mother died at a private medical centre at 2am on March 18 while her daughter died at the Sarawak General Hospital today at 1pm.

Another family member who had tested positive for Covid-19 is still warded and is on life support at the Sarawak General Hospital.

The committee said there was a three-day delay in reporting the elder woman’s death as the private hospital where she was warded had to wait for test results.

Test samples had to be sent to a lab in Kuala Lumpur as the medical centre has no testing capability and the result was only received yesterday evening.

The source of their infections is still being investigated, the statement said

The state’s first Covid-19 death was that of a pastor at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kuching on March 17.

Sarawak today confirmed 10 more people have been tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 68.

Five of them have been warded at Sibu hospital, three at the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching and two at Bintulu Hospital.

Another 37 people have been declared persons under investigation (PUI).

Of the 751 PUIs in the state, 711 had been tested negative while the rest are awaiting their test results. – March 21, 2020.
